  • Carefully read (and re-read!) your assignment description
Oftentimes, your instructor will 'pack' keywords and specific topic terms into the assignment description. While reading it, ask yourself, "What is my instructor asking me to research?" Circle or highlight words and phrases that best answer this question.

  • Consult your course text book
Does your text book have a glossary or index? Is there is a list of vocabulary terms at the end of each chapter? These can often be a gold mine of keywords. Take advantage of it!

  • Consult your instructor
Don't be shy! This is what he/she is there for. Your instructors are experts in their field; they know the vocabulary and are anxious to share that knowledge with you.
